Fresno Cocktails Right Now

Coffee-forward shaken cocktail

Espresso Martini

The espresso martini remains one of the most-ordered modern cocktails nationally, and Fresno cocktail lounges have followed suit with their own house versions.

Why Fresno: Downtown/Fulton St spots like Bespoke lean into craft, small-batch versions of trending national cocktails as part of their 'innovative techniques' menu approach.

Show the recipe
  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz fresh espresso
  • 3/4 oz coffee liqueur
  • 1/4 oz simple syrup

Shake all ingredients hard with ice until well-chilled and frothy, double strain into a chilled coupe.

Coupe · Garnish: Three coffee beans

Agave sour

Spicy Margarita (Agave Sour)

Agave spirits and spicy/savory riffs on the margarita are a dominant, durable trend in Central Valley bars, reflecting both regional Mexican-food culture and the national mezcal/tequila boom.

Why Fresno: Agave spirits and chile heat fit the Central Valley's Mexican food culture, so spicy margaritas show up on menus from the Tower District to Clovis.

Show the recipe
  • 2 oz blanco tequila
  • 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz agave syrup
  • 2-3 slices fresh jalapeno

Muddle jalapeno, add remaining ingredients with ice, shake hard, strain over fresh ice.

Rocks glass, tajin rim optional · Garnish: Jalapeno slice or lime wheel

Savory/umami stirred cocktail

Dirty Martini

The dirty martini's resurgence as a savory, olive-brine-forward drink is one of the most visible 2025-2026 cocktail trends nationally, and art-deco-styled bars in Fresno's Tower District have embraced classic-leaning martini programs.

Why Fresno: The Howlin Wolf's 1920s art-deco cocktail concept in the Tower District is built around classic spirit-forward drinks like the martini family.

Show the recipe
  • 2.5 oz gin or vodka
  • 1/2 oz dry vermouth
  • 1/2 oz olive brine

Stir all ingredients with ice until well-chilled, strain into a chilled martini glass.

Martini glass · Garnish: 2-3 olives on a pick

Low/no-ABV

Zero-Proof Chili Margarita

Non-alcoholic and low-ABV cocktails are a fast-growing national category, and Fresno now has a dedicated sober bar concept serving craft mocktails built on the same technique as their boozy counterparts.

Why Fresno: Fresno bars are adding more alcohol-free options as the national no/low-ABV category grows, and the spicy-margarita flavor profile translates perfectly.

Show the recipe
  • 2 oz non-alcoholic agave spirit alternative
  • 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz agave syrup
  • chili-salt rim

Shake with ice, strain into a chili-salt-rimmed rocks glass over fresh ice.

Rocks glass · Garnish: Lime wheel, chili-salt rim

Whiskey classic with local twist

Wine Country Old Fashioned

Whiskey bars pairing Central Valley wine and spirits culture with classic cocktail technique are a steady presence downtown, reflecting the region's wine-and-whiskey identity.

Why Fresno: 45 Wine and Whiskey, a longtime downtown Fresno bar, centers its program on whiskey-forward classics alongside a substantial wine list.

Show the recipe
  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1/4 oz demerara syrup
  • 2 dashes aromatic bitters
  • orange peel

Stir bourbon, syrup, and bitters with ice, strain over one large ice cube.

Rocks glass · Garnish: Expressed orange peel

Our take · ABC Bartending College original

The Blossom Trail Fizz

Named for Fresno County's Blossom Trail, the 62-mile scenic route through the region's fruit orchards; built to showcase the Central Valley's stone-fruit and citrus harvest with a bright, effervescent, food-friendly profile.

An original recipe from our Fresno instructors, not a drink served at a specific bar.

  • 2 oz gin
  • 3/4 oz fresh peach puree
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 oz honey syrup
  • top with sparkling wine

Shake gin, peach puree, lemon juice, and honey syrup with ice; strain into a chilled flute or coupe and top with sparkling wine.

Flute or coupe · Garnish: Thin peach slice or edible blossom

How Fresno Drinks

  • Fresno's Tower District remains the city's main walkable nightlife and cocktail-bar cluster, with several craft cocktail lounges within blocks of each other.
  • Central Valley bars frequently pair cocktails with food-forward menus (tapas, New American small plates), reflecting a dining-and-drinking crossover trend rather than standalone nightclub culture.
  • Live music nights (e.g., midweek at The Red Room) are a common draw that pairs with cocktail service, suggesting bartenders are expected to work steady midweek shifts, not just weekends.
